To promote and preserve this cultural heritage of music and dance, an organization in the name and memory of the great king and musician, ‘Maharana Kumbha Sangeet Parishad’ was set up in Udaipur in 1962 with the inspiration of great musicologist, late Pandit Omkarnath Thakur. Later, the organisation was registered under the societies act in the year 1964 and was affiliated to Rajasthan Sangeet Natak Academy, Jodhpur and Sangeet Natak Academy, New Delhi. The objective of the organization was to promote and present Indian Classical Music and Dance to the common man and society and to popularize the Classical music. Since then the Sangeet Parishad has been working for its noble mission i.e the promotion of Indian Classical Music and Dance by regularly organizing monthly Classical music concerts, Seminars and Annual music festivals (Kumbha Samaroh). Several well known musicians of the time have come, performed and paid their tribute to the king and musician, ‘Maharana Kumbha’ at a very nominal remuneration than they command and thus helped the organization to carry the tradition forward. Today, the organization which started the journey in 1962, is known in the cultural map of our country. Since beginning, all our concerts are open for all and thus serve the Society for promotion of rich Indian heritage and Culture for the last 58 years. About 2500 elite families of the town alongwith many foreign tourists attend our Annual Music and Dance Festival on each day and the event is widely covered in local Hindi and national dailies. Being the only such event of this class, the music lovers eagerly wait for this event in the city every year. The organization is now well-known for its activities in the country that provides a privileged and prestigious platform for the musicians to perform. It will complete 50 years of service to the society in the year 2012 and several plans including setting up an university ( ‘Maharana Kumbha Sangeet Visvavidyalaya’ – a Gurukul) in the state is under consideration to commemorate the Golden Jubilee Year.
